What Personally Identifiable Information is Collected
Individuals that sign up to receive The Wave Foundation's e-communications, register for The Wave Foundation events, sign The Wave Foundation's pledge, or donate to The Wave Foundation voluntarily provide us with contact information (such as name and email address). We may use this information for specific, limited purposes. You may always "opt-out," either now or at any time in the future if you do not wish to receive our messages.
The Wave Foundation uses your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server, to administer www.thewavenw.com, and for statistical metrics used to track website visitor traffic.
www.thewavenw.com uses "cookie" messages to automatically help provide better services. They remind us who you are and your preferences for our website based on what you've done and told us before. The "cookie" is placed in your computer and is read when you come back to our website. Cookies let us take you to the information and features you're particularly interested in. They also let us track your usage of www.thewavenw.com, so we know which parts of our sites are most popular. You can reject cookies or cancel them by instructing your Web browser accordingly.
How Your Information May Be Used
We use your personal information to provide you with personalized service; to send email alerts to you; to answer your requests; to solicit contributions; etc. You may choose to opt-out at any time, which will cease all communications from us. We may also use your information to track visitors on our website. This lets us see which of our features are the most popular so we can better serve our users' needs. It also lets us provide aggregate data about our traffic (not identifying you personally, but showing how many visitors used which features, for example) to outside parties.
The Wave Foundation does not provide, sell, or rent email addresses to anyone outside the organization.
www.thewavenw.com includes links to external websites. These links do not fall under the www.thewavenw.com domain, and The Wave Foundation is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of external websites. Your use of any linked website is solely at your own risk.
Personal data you provide about others
Do not provide personal data about others unless you are authorized or required to do so by contract or applicable law. You may provide personal data on behalf of another person if you have provided them with a copy of this notice and obtained their explicit consent. We may ask you to provide evidence of that notice and consent.
Data we receive from third parties and other sources
We may receive personal data about you from other sources, including your company/organization, professional references, publicly-available sources, third-party analytics providers, and other third parties. For example, we may receive your personal data if: someone at your company/organization designates you as a contact person for that company/organization or includes information about you in membership documents; another visitor includes it in any feedback, comments, photos, videos, or other information submitted via online portals, electronic forms, surveys, or interactive portions of our sites; or one of our employees or service providers provides or a third party acting on apparent authority provides it to us when registering you to access our facilities or our sites, apply for a job, or participate in one of our events.
Special categories of data
We will not intentionally collect any “special categories of data” under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) without your explicit consent for one or more specified purposes or as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. Special categories of data include personal data (a) revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership; or (b) concerning health or data concerning a natural person’s sex life or sexual orientation.
To the extent any donations are processed through a third-party service provider, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.
The Wave Foundation will not sell or trade our donors’ personal information with any other entity.
We occasionally share donor information (such as names, mailing addresses, and email addresses, but never credit card or donation information) with coalitions and campaigns of which The Wave Foundation is a member, solely for communication purposes.
All contact information is used for internal purposes only and never published.
Donor names are published in The Wave Foundation’s annual report, and donors may request to remain anonymous.
We occasionally send mail to our donors, but we do not intend to send any unwanted mail. To be removed from The Wave Foundation’s mailing list, you may send a request to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 541-923-3187.
